At last...

Oh dear where to begin?
It's been so long...I don't even know if I remember how to post pictures? But I guess that won't be a problem since the camera is MIA...Don't worry I notified the police.

So much has happened since I last wrote...some pretty interesting happenin's at that.

You see since I last blogged I have...

1)Traveled to Springer, NM. Where Mimi & Preston live...where Mimi made Meatloaf that I would kill for...Yes, I'm weird. I love Meatloaf. And Mimi is just weird enough that she made it for me. Thank you Mimi!

2)Traveled to Cimmaron, NM. Where Sandhill participated in a Rodeo...I'm still recovering from the dust & the sun...

3)Traveled to Tres Ritos, NM. Where we spent three days at the Cleavinger Cabin. We were lucky enough to witness a bear trying to break into our coolers and eat our food...we were also lucky enough to witness him walking away (FAR AWAY) from our cabin.

4)Traveled to Alpine, TX. Where we went to the Big Bend Ranch Rodeo. At Alpine, I saw some of the roughest, wildest country I have ever seen...as well as cactuses (cacti?) as big as Semi's.

and finally...

5) Traveled to Earth, TX. Where I will spend my last week of summer vacation, & for that I am glad. Glad for the end of summer? No, not so much. But glad to be home? Yes, very much so.

And now...I will go search frantically for the camera, so you can see for yourself where I have been, and spare you from having to listen to me babble all day...

A Band of Gypsies, and A Lazy Hound

Dear dear Readers,

I am regretting to inform you that once again I am hitting the road. We are traveling to the mountains in New Mexico where my Mom's family has a cabin, and that I am very excited about about, but I am not very excited about there being no internet/cell service(at all!) there because then I will not be able to write to you...but this is the price we must pay for living the life of a band of gypsies...not the life of a lazy hound.

Which brings me to the topic of exactly that....a lazy hound.

This is my lazy hound. His name is Max, and what a sweet lazy hound he is, but thats the problem...he's just a lazy hound. I say this because his day to day activity includes the following:

  • sleeping
  • eating
  • pestering the cat
  • pestering the other cat
  • pestering all of us actually
  • sleeping
  • eating
  • barking (occasionally, apparently it takes a lot of effort...)
  • roaming the yard
  • sleeping

No doubt you see what a busy dog he is (*wink*wink*.)

But nevermind his laziness, we've had Max since he was only a lazy pup and we all love him. (And even though he is probably the worst cow dog ever my Dad continues to love him in spite of this.)

Oh! I almost forgot to mention one of Max's hidden talents!

Yes I know...he's "special."

Anyways we cannot all be lucky enough to live the leisurely life of a lazy hound, so instead we're going to head down the highway again until next wednesday...So until then may all your lives have the promise of leisure.

Peace, Love, & Hounds not worth killin'...but we love'em anyway

LaVerne's Castle

Today I got the privilege to visit a Castle. I'm not kidding either...this Castle just happens to be named the Running Water Care Center, it also happens to be in Olton, Texas just 15 miles down the road, and it also happens to be where my grandma (Mom) Julie works...Oh, and it happens to be where the oldest relative I have lives!

Yes, LaVerne Stephenson my great great Aunt is 99(and a half) and she is the oldest relative I have. LaVerne just recently got to move in to the Running Water Care Center (aka: The Castle)...and let me tell ya folks, I'm jealous of her! She has people waiting on her hand and foot, and all the goodies she could ever want...

So today, Mama, Trail, Autumn, Scout, & myself went to visit LaVerne and of course LaVerne was ecstatic to see Scout (Who isn't?) And Scout was quite ecstatic to see LaVerne as well because well...LaVerne had candy.

Actually to say LaVerne just had candy is an understatement because LaVerne had LOTS of candy, that both Scout, Trail, and LaVerne herself helped themselves too...

LaVerne also had Dr. Peppers! She has lots of little Dr. Peppers that the care center keeps just for her in a fridge and being the generous soul that she is LaVerne shared her Dr. Peppers with us. She also had one herself, which I think is great, because hey when I'm 99(and a half) I am going to have Dr. Pepper with every meal....even brunch and Lupper(the meal between lunch and supper. Yes I made that up myself.)

( Scout never says no to a Dr. Pepper...who does?)

LaVerne shared day to day tales of her adventures in the Castle with us, and that included the beloved by all pets at the care center. There is a big fluffy cat, and a little fluffy dog. The fluffy dog is named "Moppy" very apropriatley so...and LaVerne loves him.

Who wouldn't love Moppy? He looks like a mop...

So after a long while, it was time to say goodbye, and as always both Trail and Scout gave LaVerne big hugs, and we departed the Castle...I would like to say we left in a horse-drawn carriage, but the royal treatment is only for the residents at the Running Water Care Center...

Peace, Love, & Your never too old to be a princess

Corn Fed!

We are so blessed. We are so blessed to live in this part of the country where crops are bountiful. And even more recently, we are blessed to be corn fed.

You see, yesterday we were able to go pick some sweet corn from one of our kins fields, and we were also able to shuck it, boil it, put it up and so on...

We do this every year, and every year I'm amazed how much people love corn...Seriously, I mean these people ate corn all day! It's like they couldn't get enough...Ok, so I had my fair share of it too...

Scout started early on in the day inspecting the corn, and I think she rather liked it.

Yes, I would say she liked it ALOT.

Then Sutton Templeton (My other sweet cousin, who happens to be two years old as well.) "borrowed" Scouts corn...he actually "borrowed" it for the rest of the day.

And I'd say he loved it too.

Anyways...after we got done eating all the corn, with what little was left we proceeded to "put up."

It started with boiling all the corn, and then cooling it off so all us ladies could cut it off the cobb.

See? Doesn't it look fun...Believe me it was, and we got to do it for FIVE hours straight! And man was it a party!

Ok, so even if it wasn't a "party" it was quite satisfying to see all that corn on a platter that we could share & eat...hopefully mostly eat. (Is that gluttony?)

And then we proceeded to bag it up and put it in the freezer so we could have fresh corn all winter long?

In fact we have corn runnin' out of our ears...I think we could have corn every meal for a year, and still have some left over...Ok, so maybe thats an exaggeration, but seriously folks its a lot of corn!

So if you ever have a hankerin' for homegrown sweet corn, hit us up because we have a plenty!

Peace, Love, & Can you make cornbread out of corn?

Country Singers & Mustaches

Today Pop told me a joke that I would like to share with you:

Pop: "Summer, do you know what they say about me?"
Me: "No Pop what?"
Pop: "That my personality is what makes me good lookin'."
(Now I don't know who "they" is but "they" are very smart for agreeing with Pop.)

Now this led me to think of the connection between George Strait and my Pop ( I don't know why it did, but thats how my mind works...and it could be because growing up my mother was in love with George Strait, and had posters of him in her closet at Mom & Pops house.)

You see Pop shares a birthday with George Strait...they are even the exact same age. And thats not all they have in common. Actually they have a number of things in common...

1) They both are dashing fellows that wear straw hats.
2)They both are famous...George Strait is on posters....Pop is on my blog.
3)They both are overflowing with talent...George Strait can sing and pick guitar....Pop can farm anything and fix anything.
4)They also both can rope.

The only difference between Pop and George Strait is that Pop has a mustache.

You see? George Strait has no mustache....Oh, and Pop doesn't get airbrushed before he takes his pictures. Come on George, thats a little fruity don't you think?

And another difference...The most striking at that, Pop is my grandpa and I love him and wouldn't trade him for any old country singer in the World.

Peace, Love, & Men that are too old to be wearing makeup

Beautiful Feet

Have you ever just stopped and took into consideration all the work your feet do? I mean think about it...whats the first thing you do in the morning? You wake up and stand on your....feet, yes. And what do you do throughout the day? You walk on your....feet, correct. And the last thing you do at night? Rub your feet! Because your dogs are barkin' from walking/running/skipping all day. Now even more importantly have you ever stopped and just thought about what you are wearing on your feet? This is crucial, because as long as your feet look good...you can suffer through the pain.

Now when I want my feet to look good...I wear the all-time best "shoe" ever. They comfort your feet. They make your feet happy. They make your feet beautiful. And that is...boots!

I wear boots day & night.

Literally I do, I wear them ALL the time...

I wear them at work(That goes without saying...Duh Summer.)

I wear them at church.

I wear them at Rodeos(Again...Duh Summer.)

I wear them at school...Is that why they think I'm a redneck?

I wear them at the breakfast table.

I wear them to sleep in...Seriously I do, I have Houseshoe boots...I'm starting to think this is more than just an obsession.

And I wear them in the shower...Just kidding.

If you don't believe me...here's proof.

This is me wearing them at work...

This is me wearing them to Church...

And its not just me...the trend has spread.

Now this picture is mainly about Scout...but see the boots? Yes, Autumn is wearing boots...because they are marvelous.

Lo and behold...more boots!

A collaboration of beautiful boots? Yes.

Well I think I've proved my point...I love boots....Autumn loves boots....Scout loves boots...America Loves boots.

Peace, Love, & It's more than an obsession, It's a lifestyle.

A Few of My Favorite Things

I have decided that aside from the basic information that comes from my ever so interesting blog(*wink*wink*)...my readers really don't know that much about me (excluding the ones that live in the same house, or are my aunts, or grandmothers...which leaves basically 3 to 4 of you.) So I am venturing to dig deep into my soul, and share my inmost thoughts and feelings with you...

Ok maybe we won't go that deep (but wouldn't it be nice if we did?) but I will share a few interesting tid-bits about myself with you all...

So First Item Of Business! - My favorite People

& First on the list of course is...My family.

This of course, is them...aren't they darling? Now in this picture it seems as if something is rather funny doesn't it? Obviously I didn't see the humor in it...

Ok? Something is funny in this picture too, and I missed it again...What's going on? I'm starting to think they are laughing at me...

Nevermind the fact they make fun of me all the time, I still love them...

And this is George....George never makes fun of me.

And now George isn't family, but he is definately one of my favorite people...After all he is Pure Country.

And this is Rocky...Rocky isn't family either, but who doesn't like Rocky? You know? I, uh mean, he's Rocky Balboa...you know?

Well thats only a small slice of my favorite people...there are many, many more...and for those of you who are sad because you aren't on here just need to know that I wear a size 7 in shoes (hint hint) Just kidding...kinda.

Peace, Love, & My Favorite shoes are Platform Heels
